THE CHANCELLOR says:
“BY THE AUTHORITY VESTED IN ME, I CONFER ON THESE PERSONS WHOSE NAMES ARE ABOUT TO BE CALLED, AND THOSE WHO ARE UNABLE TO ATTEND, THE DEGREE OF DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY OF THIS UNIVERSITY AND RECOGNIZE THEIR ADVANCEMENT IN OUR SOCIETY.”
Professor Stephan Gift announces the degrees to be awarded and calls the names of the graduates.
THE CHANCELLOR caps each graduate, shakes the right hand and says to each one: “I RECOGNIZE YOUR ADVANCEMENT IN OUR SOCIETY.”
THE VICE-CHANCELLOR presents the scroll to each graduate.
When the names have been called, Professor Stephan Gift caps the Chancellor and returns
to his seat.
Alumni Pledge
Following the presentation of higher degree graduates, the Chancellor calls on the President UWI Alumni Association (Jamaica Chapter), Ms. Jacqueline Sharpe to lead the graduates in reciting the Alumni pledge saying:
“I NOW CALL ON THE PRESIDENT, UWI ALUMNI ASSOCIATION (JAMAICA CHAPTER), MS. JACQUELINE SHARPE TO LEAD THE GRADUATES IN RECITING THE ALUMNI PLEDGE
The President, UWI Alumni Association (Jamaica Chapter) goes to the Centre microphone, invites the graduates to stand, and leads them in reciting the UWI Alumni Pledge.
The graduates stand, recite the Pledge and remain standing for the singing of the University Song.
