ed with Gertrud Hollenders on Vastergatan, but was unable to pay for his lodging, food, and gambling debts. Despite reminders, he did not pay the debt, so Gertrud Hollenders, a resolute and fearless woman, requested an "arrest" on him, meaning his seizure and detention (by the bailiff or in the city jail), until he settled the debt. The bailiff granted the arrest request, stating that he could not refuse to do so on behalf of the King, but made Gertrud promise to hold the bailiff harmless for the action in any way.
It is not known how the matter was resolved, but it is likely that it was settled amicably with the help of councilor of the realm Erik Gustavsson. Erik Gustavsson had in his retinue his son Sten, his Swedish secretary Lauritz, and his and his son's servants Sten Eriksson and Nils Christof- fersson, all of whom were housed in Gertrud Hollenders's lodging. On the evening of December, just before Christmas in 1601, there was a party hosted by Erik Gustavsson in the lodging, probably organized by his son Sten; and for added entertainment.
The noisy group led by Johan speleman and his servants, playing wind instruments, and followed by Mr. Sten and the others with drawn swords, with which they hit the pavement, shouting and making noise. The
