 conduct in office. Fearing the outcome, Ulfeldt chose to leave the country and secretly fled with Leonora Christina and their two oldest children in the middle of July 1651 on a ship to Holland. From there, he and his wife and two servants traveled to Sweden and obtained safe conduct letters from Queen Christina, allowing them to reside anywhere within the Swedish kingdom.
The story "Gufars bilderbok" by Danish fairy tale author Hans Christian Andersen tells the romantic tale of Corfitz Ulfeldt and Leonora Christi- na's love and flight, using the following beautiful imagery: "Now comes a leaf, which you shall really see, said the magpies; there is picture on picture, just like in a scrapbook page by page. It is a song so joyful in
