Never a dull day
History seems to repeat itself, and here at Mayfair Hotel Tunneln, more so than in many other establishments. Perhaps you know that there is a nightclub located within the hotel. It has not been used as a nightclub since 2005, but back in the day, it was a big deal here in Malmö. Over the years, a long array of scandals and various dubio- us transactions have taken place here.
Regardless, this crazy story unfolds back on a warm summer's day in 2010. I had just received a phone call from a potential tenant half an hour earlier. He claimed that he was on the lookout for a new location in which he would open an art gallery. I already had a lot of hopefuls, dreamers, and entrepreneurs come and look at the old disco, but I was happy to entertain and waited patiently for Mr. Segel's arrival.
20 minutes late, a gold-wrapped Jaguar XKR parked outside the en- trance of the hotel. A very young, skinny, and well-mannered man greeted me. He followed up with a weak, clammy handshake. Five minutes in, Mr. S. turned around and said, "I love it, and I want to rent the location, and we would like a 15-year contract." He stuck out his clammy hand and proceeded to give me a handshake only
a jellyfish would be proud of. From the get-go, I was aware that something was off, but something told me that there was money behind the facade. And boy, was I right.
