Ultimately it would be her reunion with a big grey mare named Bullet that would set Corrine back on the right path.
Bullet was never an easy horse to train and would make it a habit to dislodge riders from her back whenever possible. When Bullet was two Corrine was asked to take over the exercising duties of the feisty lly and while initially she didn’t want to get on her,
the pair were made for each other. “I didn’t bother her,” said Corrine, “I let her lunge through the air. She would go up, turn and buck but she always caught me. I just knew that she was not going to hurt me.”
Corrine rode Bullet as a lly in her rst career race in 2014 and now three years later she was back looking to reconnect and asked her trainer Frank Barroby to put her back on the mare.
Bullet and Corrine won the second race on opening day, April 23, 2017 at Hastings. It was an emotional win, the rst win since her injury in 2014 and the rst win since May 31, 2015 for Bullet.
With renewed con dence Corrine returned to Ontario in August that year to ride out the remainder of the Fort Erie and Woodbine meets. Before she left she made a deal with Bullet’s owner that at the end of the mare’s career she would have a home with Corrine.
Bullet arrived in Ontario in February 2018 and spent some time at the track getting back in shape after not faring too well in her retirement at a farm in BC.
In 2018 Corrine branched out to Quarter Horse racing at Ajax Downs (along with riding 16 starts Thoroughbreds at Woodbine and Fort Ere) where she ourished winning 8 races in 70 mounts that year and has won ve races in 42 mounts so far this year.
“It has been amazing.” says Corrine about her life today, “I love it at Ajax. I love the speed. I love the thrill and I still ride the horses that nobody wants to ride.”
Corrine is spiritually married to Khaled Fawzy after the pair met online in 2017 and both con rming that it was love at rst sight.
Born in Abu Dhabi, Khaled was involved with horses
at age 10 after being one of the boys chosen to attend the Royal Military Academy as a horse guard. At age 14 Khaled moved to Canada to join his father who lived in Scarborough and continued riding at Sunnybrook stables. He joined the Canadian Army while in high school and after completing college his interest turned to motorcycles eventually growing a business of buying and selling as well as teaching and racing.
Since childhood Khaled had a love for photography and when he met Corrine he would take photos at the track and ultimately built up a following among the horsepeople at the track posting and selling his photos under Hayat Photography.
In December 2018, the couple accepted an opportunity to manage the Royal Canadian Riding Academy in Cedar Valley, Ontario. Today Corrine lives on the farm with Khaled and his young son, Aydin. And of course Bullet, that one horse that ultimately brought Corrine back to life, is happily there too.
