The purchase of the track by the EDTC would lead to the inception of a not-for-pro t corporation who would oversee the running of the race track. The corporation would consist of representatives from the EDTC, the Ontario HBPA and the Town of Fort Erie.
Just before their March 15 deadline, it was announced that Nordic Gaming Corp. has accepted the deal put forth by the HBPA of Ontario, the Economic Development and Tourism Corp. (EDTC), and the Town of Fort Erie for a $2,250,000 non- refundable down payment towards the purchase of Fort Erie Race Track for $35
million.

With the absence of thoroughbred racing at Stampede Park in Calgary, Northlands Park in Edmonton is picking up the slack with a 96 day thoroughbred meet which begins Friday, May 1 and ends Sunday, October 25.
Edmonton schedule, the Alberta Derby, which is usually run in June, is not one of them.
There will be live thoroughbred racing Friday thru Sunday in the month of May with Wednesday, May 13 and Monday, May 18 (Victoria Day) being added. There will be no racing May 25 to 31.
There are 40 stakes scheduled, down 8 from Calgary and Edmonton’s combined 2008 stakes. Nine stakes will have added money for Alberta- breds this year. The stakes and  gures are as follows: President’s Stakes
