Name on a Plate
These personalized plates wouldn’t mean much to the average person but if you’ve been around the racetrack for some time you would probably be in the know:
This plate is for 1999 Gelding, Rare Friends, a
2 year-old Champion and Multiple Stakes Winner (7 Stakes wins) who was owned by Trainer Robert
Tiller & Frank Di Giulio Jr. One of the many races
that Rare Friends won was the 2002 A eet Stakes named after the 1984 Mr. Prospector horse, A eet, whose
name is on the plate of trainer Reade Baker who is stabled in the same barn as Robert at Woodbine.
In 1985 Reade was in charge of racing operations for A eet’s
owner Richard Kennedy.
Phil England trained Kennedy’s homebred who was Champion 3 year-old and Horse of
the Year in 1987.
If you look back down the barn parking lot you
will see this plate for the horse Cheap Talk. Owned by Trainer
Robert Tiller who gave his longtime Assistant Trainer, Tom Lottridge, a half share in the horse, Cheap Talk went on to win the
Kennedy Rd. Stakes and also placed in a couple of Graded Stakes throughout his racing career.
