Did You Know...
That trainer Greg DeGannes purchased the half-sister to 2005 Queen’s Plate winner, Wild Desert, at last year’s select yearling sale in Toronto. The now 2-year-old filly, named Kick’em Jenny, is by Bold Executive and was a $25,000 purchase for owner Ralph Johnson, a noted Barbadian yachts- man and vice-president of the Barbados Olympic Committee.
The filly, who is reportedly named after the undersea volcano Kick’em Jenny, which is located off the north shore of Grenada, is expected to make her racing debut in mid-August.

Anderson Farms - Hip No. 189 Select filly by Ascot Knight out of the mare Sheffield who is the mare of Silver Hawk Lady (Conquistador Cielo), who is currently still racing at Woodbine and is a winner of $89,620 from age 2 to 4. She also produced Lucky Cielo (Conquistador Cielo) who continues to race at Woodbine this season. Sheffield’s 2004 yearling sold in the open sale for $20,000 to Jam Jar Racing Stable and is unraced under the name, Yes She’s Sterling.
John Carey, Agent - TC Westmeath - Hip No. 145 Select filly by One Way Love out of the mare Opinionated lady. This filly is the 1/2 sister to Awesome Action (Awesome Again) who was the recent winner of the Ontario Jockey Club Stakes at Woodbine and has been a winner from age 2 to 5 with earnings of close to $400,000. Opinionated Lady has produced seven foals, with 4 starters and 4 winners including Bird Chatter (Birdonthewire) who is stakes placed in the US.
Susan Y Foreman - Hip No. 74 Select colt by Mazel Trick out of the mare Explosive Missile, by Gallapiat. The 2004 Forest Camp yearling out of this mare sold for $160,000 to McMahon Bloodstock and is currently an unraced 2-year-old named Tuwani. Explosive Missile is a sister to He’s Explosive and has produced 6 foals with 4 starters and 3 winners.
Gardiner Farms Ltd. - Hip No. 182 Select filly by One Way Love - Sandhill Charm, by Vanlandingham. The full sister sold as a 2004 yearling to Agent Mike Doyle for $40,000 and is currently unraced under the name Aoife.
Sandhill Charm is the mare of Twisted Wit (Distorted Humor) a multiple stakes winner of more than $560,000 at Woodbine.
Beth Hancock, Agent - Hip No. 99 Select filly by Perigee Moon - I’mblondetoo, by Mogambo is a full sister to Madmacmaeg, a 2004 yearling who sold for $55,000 to agent Alistair Rodin and is currently unraced at 2.
I’mblondetoo is the mare of I Am Gorgeous (2000 -Kiridashi) who was a winner at age 2 and is still racing in 2005 and currently has 1 win and 2 seconds and close to $115,000 in purse earnings so far this season: Boozin Blonde (2001 Whiskey Wisdom) who is a multiple stakes winner from age 2 of more than $205,000; and Blonde Wisdom (2002 - Whiskey Wisdom) a two-year-old winner in 2004.
Hill ‘N’ Dale Sales Agency - Hip No. 61 Select colt by Sultry Song out of Czipra, by No Louder. Czipra is the mare of Rundle (1999 Foxhound) who has raced successfully from age 2 to 6 and is stakes placed with close to $300,000 in earnings. Czipra’s 2002 colt by You and I sold for $75,000 to Connie Corigliano in the 2004 Select sale and is currently unraced at 2.
-Hip No. 157 Select filly by Mutakddim - Petite Noire, by Silver Deputy. The full sister sold in 2004 as a yearling for $180,000 to Linmac Farms and is currently an unraced 2-year-old named Highland Jewel.
Richard Hogan, Agent - While Richard mentioned that he has a nice group of yearlings to offer this year he did say that the following yearlings were stand outs and definitely worth a good look:
- Hip No. 60 Select filly by Tale of the Cat - Cozzall, by Cozzene
- Hip No. 115 Select colt by Tejano Run - Lady Gretchen, by Akureyri who is a full brother to Shaw’s Creek, a multiple stakes winner of $512,862.
- Hip No. 82 Select filly by Silver Charm out of the mare Galaxy Girl, by Astro
Spring Farms, Agent for Hedgestone Management - Hip No. 185 Select filly by Bold n’ Flashy out of the Vice Regent mare, Seduction. Seduction’s 2004 yearling by Mutakddim sold for $50,000 to Gail Casselman, agent for John Ball and is currently unraced under the name Bethune at age 2.
Windfields Farms, Agent - Hip No. 89, filly by the name of Heart of a Queen, who is by Kiridashi - Grace’s Angel, by Marquetry. Her 1/2 sister by Archer’s Bay sold as a 2004 yearling for $115,000 to Kelynack Stable and is currently unraced under the name Natalies Archer at age 2.
- Hip No. 101 Select colt by Cat’s At Home out of the mare Imperial Miss, by Imperial Falcon. 2004 yearling filly by El Corredor sold for $45,000 to Mike Ambler and is currently un-raced at two under the name, One Across. Imperial Miss is the mare of 8 foals, 5 starters and 5 winners including Estonia (War Deputy) $272,649 and Imperial Alydeed (Alydeed) who is the multiple stake placed winner of more than $262,000 and is a winner at age 4 in 2005.

The CTHS British Columbia Yearling and Mixed Sale will be held once again at Thunderbird Show Park in Langley on Monday, September 12 for the broodmares and weanlings and Tuesday, September 13 for the yearlings and two-year-olds.
Between the two sales there are 255 Hip numbers being offered including 218 yearlings, some of which are by top BC sires Vying Victor, Regal Intention, Alfarri and Katahoula County. Other stallions include Bold Executive , Cat’s at Home, Devil’s Bag, Feu d’Enfer, Gold Case, Holly Bull, Millennium Allstar, Orchid’s Devil, Stephanotis, Tale of the Cat and more.
Consignor Bruno J. Farms is offering a yearling filly (Hip No. 101) who is the full sister to Regal Heir, by Regal Intention out of the mare Up Draft, who is a multiple stakes winner of more than $184,000. Up Draft’s 2002 foal, Soldier King recently broke his maiden at age 3 in 2005.
Consignor Brian Kozak, agent is offering an Alberta bred yearling filly (Hip No. 171) named Alabama Red, by Katahoula County - Entrusting, by Stalwart, whose 1/2 brother (by Vying Victor) was the recent stakes winner of the Jim Coleman Province Handicap at Hastings bringing his earnings to close to $177,000 at age 3.
Winsome Ranch/ Merv Nelson is offering Hip No. 172 a BC bred yearling filly by Royal Albert Hall - Eppies Choice, by Knights Choice, who is a 1/2 sister to multiple stakes winners, Feutoomany ($159,902) and Win a Feu ($223,169).
Graduates of the annual CTHS BC sale have been surfacing with increasing regularity.
