Did You Know...
That a Horse Sales Bill which is aimed at protecting buyers and sellers in equine transactions was passed in Kentucky on February 21 which would prohibit anyone from serving as agent for both the buyer and the seller unless there is full disclosure and they must obtain written consent from both sides. This bill includes the sale of race and show horses as well as stallions and broodmares and in some instances the sale must include a written bill of sale. An amendment was attached that would exempt transactions under $10,000.
According to the blood-horse, the issue of dual representation was featured in a lawsuit against two agents and a trainer who Jess Jackson, a prominent vintner and owner/breeder, says defrauded him by accepting undisclosed commissions from a horse-seller. Jackson lobbied for the bill.
