Great Gladiator Euthanized
Only a few of months away from his 30th birthday, pensioned horse Great Gladiator was euthanized in mid-November due to the infirmities of old age.
“I told myself that I would would never let this horse suffer,” said Great Gladiator’s owner John Carey of T.C. Westmeath Stud, “He was in great shape and then one day he was walking funny. He may have had a mild stroke.”
Born in February 1977, Great
Gladiator was a multiple Stakes
winner racing at Woodbine from 1979 to 1982. He was retired to the breeding shed at T.C. Westmeath and by 1998 he was among the leading sires in Canada.
Multiple Stakes winners, Mulligan the Great ($607,730 career earnings); Mister Coop ($582,777); No Foul Play ($545,419 career earnings); and Carey the Belle ($534,775) are just some of his most prominent progeny.
Other Stakes winners included: Stormy Gladiator, Spanish Play; Hopeful Moment; Host Master; Prince
of Style; and Mips.
Great Gladiator was pen-
sioned from breeding in 2004 after siring 440 foals in 21 crops with total earnings to date of more than $20 million.
Currently standing at TC Westmeath is Parisianprospector who is by Geiger Counter out of a Great Gladiator mare, Parisian Gladiator.
Stallion Crown Attorney Keeping Busy Show Jumping
The Mary Jane and Tony Lamb owned, Crown Attorney, who had been at stud at TC Westmeath since 2000, has now been moved to Debany Farm and has been actively show jumping.
His progeny are still racing and Uncle Max has been his most productive offspring to date.
Crown Attorney is still available for breeding and anyone interest should contact John Carey at TC Westmeath Stud.

A new arena and barn should now be completed at Richard Moylan’s Hunterview Farm located just north of Hwy 9 and west of Airport Road. The finely constructed barn and arena will provide an additional 11 stalls and a bright and airy, all season indoor training surface.
A limited number of stalls are still available for the winter.
