Russell Hustling towards History
As The Game went to press, Jockey Russell A Baze was on the cusp of riding history, just three wins from breaking Laffit Pincay’s all-time record of 9530 wins. Baze rode two winners at Bay Meadows on Sunday November 26 to bring his career total to 9528.
Also closing on Pincay’s record is Brazilian-born jockey, Jorge Ricardo, based in Buenos Aires. Ricardo currently has 9500 career victories.

That Lion Heart, who stands at Ashford Stud in Kentucky is represented by the most live foals in 2006 as was reported by the Jockey Club from their live foal statistics compiled through September 6, 2006. There were 3,992 stallions that covered 64,123 mares in North America and of the 36,630 live foals reported, Lion Heart, was responsible for 187 foals. Rounding out the top ten stallions were: Giant's Causeway (178), Chapel Royal (175), Fusaichi Pegasus (171), Medaglia d'Oro (156), Johannesburg (141), Malibu Moon (137), Tale of the Cat (136), and the trio of Grand Slam, More Than Ready, and Northern Afleet each at 131. Reporting of live foals is 90% complete at this time of year.

That 2003 G1 Canadian International winner, Phoenix Reach (Ire) has been retired and will stand the 2007 season at The National Stud in Newmarket, England. The six-year-old horse by Alhaarth (Ire) - Carroll’s Canyon (Ire), by Hatim raced in seven countries on four separate continents for owner Winterbeck Manor Stud. He was victorious in the G1 Hong Kong Vase at Sha Tin in 2004 and G1 Dubai Sheema Classic at Nad al Sheba the following year and recorded a second in the G1 Singapore Airlines International Cup at Kranji.
