(Photo Left) Trainer Daryl Ezra and Michelle Olsson have been together for 29 years now and are pictured here with their 8 year-old gelding, Speyside (Mobil - Sahara Samba) outside the barn at Fort Erie. Daryl claimed Speyside for owner Gary McMaster in 2014. In 2015 ownership switched to Michelle and last year Speyside was a two time winner with one third in 14 starts.
Speyside isn’t the oldest horse in Daryl’s barn however. (Photo right) 10 year-old mare, Wasted, also owned by Michelle is t and ready to run again recording two fast works at the track thus far. Daryl jokes that she is “the fastest horse in the
world.............in the morning.” Her last win in the afternoon was in 2014, however she came close to winning again last year with a second and two thirds.
After purchasing at auction old Betamax and VHS tapes of Thoroughbred races, Daryl has been posting videos on his Facebook Page at Daryl G. Ezra. It has been great to watch some of the favourite horses from the 1980’s & 90’s as well as the early 2000’s. Some of the posts have been requests while others are just general interest such as Kiridashi winning the Prince of Wales in 1995 and Sky Classic winning the Summer Stakes.
Morning training is complete at the barn of Nick Gonzalez Jr. at Fort Erie Race Track.
The son of Nick and Martha Gonzalez, Nick Jr. has been training since 2013. The top horse listed thus far in his career is Two Brews to Go, a now 6 year- old mare by Milwaukee Brew, owned by his wife Tish Gonzalez who purchased the mare in July 2015.
