properties and putting more effort into purchasing Thoroughbred racehorses.
George had partnered with his father with Thoroughbred race horses in the late 1980’s and began owning horses himself a few years before both his parents passed away in 1995.
His rst stakes winner was Wookin Good, winner
of the 2000 Centre Stage Anne Stakes at Fort Erie Race Track. It was also the year when George and partners Robert Harvey, John Cyopek, Pat Dillio,
Ken Henwood and Al Wortzman’s 3 year old horse, Numerous Times, would make his racing debut under the partnership name Committee Stable.
Undefeated in his rst ve career starts, Numerous Times, trained by Sid Attard, was an emotional winner of an eventful running of the $1 million G1 Atto Mile
in 2001. Numerous Times was named Sovereign Award Champion Grass Horse that year and after a couple of years without another win, the ride was over for Committee Stables when Numerous Times was retired.
On what would have been his mother’s birthday, September 5, 2000, George purchased a yearling lly at the Canadian Breeders Sales September Selected Yearling Sale who was later named Cavalier Billie in her honour.
Cavalier Billie was the winner of the Ontario Damsel Stakes at Woodbine in 2002 and was retired to be
a broodmare after the 2004 racing season. She produced three foals, two to race, and has since been retired to live the rest of her days on the farm.
Most recently George has raced a few homebreds as well as being involved in partnerships racing Stormy Rush and Of cer’s Affair with Robert Harvey and Alan Wortzman in 2012; Street Gamble with Robert Harvey; Bear’s Kitty Kitty with Janice Attard; Leviathan with Anderson Farms Ontario Inc and John Fielding in 2016; as well as Watch Me Strut with King eld Racing Stable Ltd. in 2017.
Looking to the future, George has now set his sights on purchasing allowance and stakes type horses ready to run noting with good humour that he can’t wait around for the younger horses anymore.
George & Bonnie’s Cavalier Farm is located in Caledon with the house overlooking the stables which were built in 2001.
Bonnie and George Ledson have been married 56 years. Their three children have executive positions with Cavalier Transport where they will continue to work even though the family owned company was sold and George retired from the helm earlier this year. One son, Brian, has recently become involved in horseracing, having gone to school with owner/ breeder David Anderson.
George has a special bond with his mare Cavalier Billie. Purchased as a yearling on the date of his mother’s birthday, the lly was named to honour his mother who had passed away years earlier. Billie would prove to possess the same attitude and spirit of George’s late mother and has a home for life with George.
