to note; Jockey Justin Stein is now being represented by agent Alan Raymond after Trapper Barroby returned to British Columbia; and Jockey Constant Montpellier has hired back former agent Kerri Beauclaire who will also remain agent for her brother Tyler Pizarro.
The main track is open for training from 10:00am to 1:00pm until Sunday, April 6 when training hours will change to 7:00am to 11:00am.
Fort Erie’s leading rider in 2006 and 2007, Robert King Jr., has retired from race riding to take over the management of the Jockeys’ Benevolent Association of Canada.
Opening day at the historic track is Saturday, May 3. Live racing is also scheduled for the fol- lowing Sunday. Effective Sunday, May 10 the track will be open for live racing every Sunday through Tuesday. Three Saturday programs have been added to the calendar, July 19, August 30 and Octo- ber 25. The 80-day meet wraps up on Tuesday, October 28.
Also not returning to riding this year are jockeys Brian Bochinski and Happy Ando. Brian is now working full-time as a mail carrier for Canada Post while Happy is in Hong Kong working as an interpreter.
Post time each day is 1:05pm.
“This is a great time of the year,” said racing secretary Tom Gostlin. “We’re looking forward to another exciting season racing and we expect to have over 1,000 horses stabled here throughout the meet.”
