The following is an announcement
on
June (nee Chadburn). Eliza- beth passed away peacefully at her home Sunday, March 16, 2008, with her family by her side, after a long, heroic battle with cancer and emphy- sema. She was the rst love, beloved wife and best friend of Canadian Industrialist Ernest L (Ernie) Samuel, OC (Deceased). Loving and proud Mom of Kim Samuel-Johnson, Tammy Samuel-Balaz, (Deceased), and Mark Chadburn Samuel. Beloved daughter of the late William Roy
and Constance Chadburn of Toronto, Ontario. Elizabeth was the devoted and loving Grandmother to ve amazing Grandchildren, Caitlin Samuel-Johnson, Lisa and Michael
Balaz and Emma and Grif n Samuel who loved their Gramma very much. Elizabeth was a graduate of Trinity
College, University of Toronto. She loved her family, her company, her sailing, her Museum, her gardens and her dogs. She cherished her friendships and always had kindness and humour to share in abundance.
Elizabeth was a director and former chairman of the 153 year old family steel service centre business, Samuel, Son & Co., Limited and was a director and former chairman of the publicly- traded industrial products company, Samuel Manu-Tech Inc. Elizabeth shared her love of horses with her children and along with her husband, Ernie, founded Sam-Son Farm, one

From Bob the Feed Man at Woodbine
World issues are affecting your grain purchases.
*ETHANOL PRODUCTION IS NOW USING MILLIONS OF BUSHELS OF CORN PER YEAR, DRIVING THE PRICE UP
*WORLD GRAIN STORAGES AT A 50 YEAR LOW
*URBAN SPRAWL IS REDUCING PRODUCTIVE FARMLAND
*GLOBAL WARMING IS CAUSING WEATHER EXTREMES, DROUGHTS & FLOODS ARE AFFECTING CROPS
*WORLDWIDE SHORTAGES AND INCREASED DEMAND FROM COUNTRIES SUCH AS CHINA & INDIA.
*FUEL COST INCREASES, AFFECTING PRODUCTION AND SHIPPING OF GRAINS
*HIGHER FERTILIZER COSTS
Unfortunately, the cost of feeding your horses this year, has increased,
and will continue to do so. Corn, wheat and soy have been hit the hardest. Combinations of the above reasons and several others have all combined to raise prices, basically overnight.
Since the February Triple Crown Feed bills have been dispersed, there have been many negative reactions by trainers at Woodbine. News of these commodity increases has been made public through TV news broadcasts and articles in magazines. There have been many articles in daily newspapers, even capturing the front page, as in the Toronto Star on March 16/08.

Grain increases affect not only horsemen and farmers, but also YOU, at home. At your local grocery store, grain based foods such as pasta, breads and cereals have risen dramatically. Surprisingly, corn is one of the most essential grains we grow; it is in everything from toothpaste and soft drinks to the alcohol in your beer.
However the good news is, despite the rising prices and market instability, the quality of your racing feeds from Triple Crown will

That King eld Farm’s multiple Grade 1 winner, Jambalaya, was given the okay in early March to resume training after a 5 month lay-up when he suffered a deep bone bruise while winning the Arlington Million Stakes (G1) on August 11, 2007. Jambalaya has been wintering with owner/trainer Catherine Day Phillips in Ocala Florida.
