cold water hydrotherapy unit will now be available to

Road to the Canadian Classics
trainers at Woodbine starting in April.
Arriving on March 31, Darden Equine Hydrotherapy,
following the horses which are being pointed towards two of the Canadian Classic Races, The Oaks and The Queen’s Plate.
Sam commented that Mamma’s Knight (150-1 winterbook) has had three good recorded works so far and the third work on March 21 was very exciting, “The dream is there.” said Sam beam- ing, “the dream of everybody in this business. He came out of it great. It is very exciting.”
plans to unveil their new hydrotherapy service at Woodbine with an introductory special on April 8 & 9.
The unit will be housed in one of two transport truck containers which will be set up between the receiving barn and the ice room on the backstretch at Woodbine.
Trainer Ian Black won’t have the
opportunity to go for a repeat of winning the Queen’s Plate in 2008 after his 2007 win with Mike Fox. According to Ian, Winterbook 75-1 shot, Iron City (Forest Camp), owned by last year’s plate winning owner, D. Morgan Firestone, had a set-back while wintering in Ocala and will not be making it to the Plate.
Mamma’s Knight is the rst yearling ever purchased by owner Mike Kowalski and jockey Jerry Baird has been aboard for the works.
The ECB Equine Spa is manufactured and imported from England and offers cold therapy treatment using sea salts and epson salts. Each 10 minute session results in the horse’s legs remaining cold for up to two hours and has been touted for the prevention or treatment of shin splints, sore shins, tendonitis, arthritis, and more.
Winterbook 75-1 shot, Promising Dancer
(A Fleets Dancer), is pointing to the Plate says trainer Danny Yu, “As of today, he is not the same horse as last year.” said Danny, “Right now I am using freelance riders and they don’t know the horse and don’t take their time with him. Right now I don’t think he is having fun and he doesn’t want to do it.” Danny explained that the horse hasn’t lost its talent it has lost it’s mind
set at the moment. “The distance shouldn’t be a problem, I just have to get his mind back. Right now he is not happy.
The cost of each session is $50 however on April 8 and 9 and introductory price of $20 per session is being offered to those who pre-register at the trailers. Ray Osbourne, who specializes in the using the hydrotherapy unit with thoroughbred horses will also be on hand for training and instruction during the introductory two days.
Trainer Norm McKnight is still on the fence with 100-1 shot Ramberoo (Domasca Dan), owned by Racing Canada Inc and Ramra Sookdeo. “He looked better than he is,” said Norm who said it was still a little too early to say, “We’ll have to see as he progresses. He gets better the longer he goes.” Rambaroo broke his maiden by 5 3/4 lengths for maiden $32000 on December 8 going 1 1/16 miles.

“He’s a funny horse and with a regular rider we had gured him out. He’s good body wise just mentally he’s not into right now.” Danny was expecting rider Alex Hau to return from his winter job by the end of March.

Norm mentioned that Lincoln Fortyniner (Compadre) might be the horse that takes him to the Plate. 150-1 in the winterbook, Lincoln Fortyniner is unraced for owners Joe & Maria Stritzler. “He is a nice big horse and has a huge stride and open gait. If he shows up in his races he might be the legitimate one. It’s early yet, we’ll see what happens.”
The Danny Vella trained, winterbook favourite, Cool Gator, will be running in the Florida Derby on March 29 (at the time of this printing). Danny commented, “We’ll see after that.” when asked about the Macho Uno colt going to the Plate.
Trainer Sam Di Pasquale is happy with the development of his Plate hopeful, Mamma’s Knight (Ascot Knight) after giving him the

The colt appears to have retained his edge. On March 9, he worked ve furlongs in 1:00- at at Palm Beach Downs.
Harlem Rocker is out of speedy mare Freedom Come, who was second in Fort Erie’s Matchmaker and Wood- bine’s Zadracarta Stakes.

winter off. “He was a slow learner.” said Sam of the horse’s one win in ve races last season, “We started him in early January at Pine Valley Training and we are going to give him all the chance in the world. The rst few races will tell us if he is up for it.”
