Letter to the Editor
James Joseph Regan Passes Away
Dear Publishers,
Whoa! Whoa! Objection!
You claim in The Game, No 53, May 2005, Page 29, under “Did You Know....” That the North American and European record of straight wins was held at 16 till April 24, 2005 when Silent Witness made history by capturing his 17th straight win. This claim is false! It is not true!
Just where did you get this so called record from? Who has sanctioned it?
The record in Europe is 54 (fifty-four) held by Kincsem!
To top it all “she” has never lost a race! Her record is perfect: 54 starts, 54 wins!
She took on the boys (colts) at two, three and four and beat them every time! Not once was her win questionable! Every time she ran she crossed the finish line first!
She was forced to retire from racing due to the fact that the “Big Boys” would not race against her, they forfeited the race rather than be beaten by her!
She was a superb dam too, she had five foals, all stakes winners.
She died at the early age of 12 due to complications foaling.
She was a great horse, truly a thoroughbred!
Give her, her due! She earned it!
In memory of Kincsem, one of the great thorough-
breds,
George S. Dudas
Editor’s Note:
Thank you for your letter George.
Silent Witness making history was published in a couple of other industry publications as well as on the internet, which is where The Game acquired its infor- mation for the “Did You Know” piece.
Following your suggestion, I checked out the Guinness Book of World Records and found the fol- lowing printed in the 2003 edition:
Best Racehorse Win-Loss Record
The best career win-loss record for a racehorse is 100% wins by Kincsem, a Hungarian mare foaled in 1874, who was unbeaten in all of her 54 races through- out Europe, including the Goodwood Cup in 1878.
James Joseph Regan, a longtime Ontario horseowner, died on June 17 at Markham Stouffville Hospital. He was 77. According to a report in the Daily Racing Form, Jim Regan in partnership with his brother, Larry Regan, former HBPA President, was the owner of such stakes horses as Admiral Twit, Dawes Road, Fly Ash, Umbrella Chief, and Sgt. Hunt in the 1970's and 1980's with Red Millar as trainer.
Chris Irwin's “Win A Race Horse Challenge”
Exclusively at Can-Am Equine International Horse & Trade Show - London, On.Sept. 29 - Oct. 2, 2005
In “Reality TV” style, Chris Irwin will be the “host” and “head coach” as 12 amateur horse enthusiasts are put to the test, with camera’s rolling, of learning how to re-train a race horse for a “life after the track” career in English riding or dressage.
The audience will evaluate and school the contestants and eliminate 3 contestants each day and the collective judgement will determine which contestants will continue on to the final and compete for the prize of taking home an adoptive race horse.

Did You know....
That the Woodbine Entertainment Group owned, Mohawk Raceway,
opened for it’s first summer season of harness racing on June 19.
WEG recently completed a $6 million overhaul of the facility which now boasts a renovated
grandstand, along with a barbeque pit and patio which are trackside. There is also an open-air seating area and a refurbished concourse area. The most unique renovation was the construction of a 170 yard golf hole in the infield which will be utilized every Monday and Tuesday night when 10 racing fans will have an opportunity to take home $50,000 for a hole in one.
If the hole is elusive throughout the summer - 10 golfers who shot closest to the pin will be invited back for a chance to win $250,000. The summer harness racing meet at Mohawk runs five evenings a
week (Wednesdays and Sundays are dark) with post time at 7:20pm.
Did You Know...
That the Securities and Exchange Commission in the US has sued Thoroughbred owner
Gary Tanaka's firm, Amerindo Investment Advisors in June. Amerindo’s co-founders Tanaka and Alberto Vilar were jailed in June after being charged with stealing investors funds for their personal use. Woodbine trainer Roger Attfield has trained for Tanaka locally.
