That rider Roberto Gonzalez, with the support of the Jockeys’ Guild, is asking the California Racing Board to order payment for his win aboard Magic Destiny on
February 4, 2006 at Bay Meadows. Magic Destiny was disqualified after the win for a drug infraction and the winning purse was redistributed. Gonzalez has claimed that he is an innocent victim and, because he did nothing illegal, he should still receive the winner’s share of the $22,500 purse.

Argentine-based jockey Jorge Ricardo temporarily surpassed Russell Baze’s career win mark on February 5 to become the all-time winningest jockey with 9591 wins.
Baze however, came back from an injury layoff to reclaim the lead when he had a nearly flawless day at Bay Meadows on February 23 winning six of his seven mounts on the day’s eight race card.
Many Thoroughbreds Looking for a Good Home
By a top sire and out of a mare who made over half a million, this royally-bred gelding has the looks to go with his pedigree – he’s approximately 16 hands and very attractive. Antiqued also showed some talent on the track, winning two allowance races in an abbreviated career. He’s extremely well-behaved but will pin his ears on occasion.
Antiqued last raced in July, 2006, and is recovering very nicely from a hind sesamoid fracture. He
is in the process of being reevaluated and hopefully will soon be ready to look for a permanent, adoptive home and a new career. Please contact LongRun if you are interested in providing a loving, permanent home for this deserving thoroughbred.
Last month’s featured horse, Manjrekar, has been adopted and will be leaving the program for his new digs in March. New additions to the
over 30 horses we are currently caring for include veteran 11-year-old Grand End Sweep and four-year old Private Matter. Last year, LongRun spent well over $210,000 just caring for our retirees. We deeply appreciate all the help and support we receive from the Ontario racing community and from The Game.

That Jockey Ron Turcotte was among the honorees at the
16th annual Sports Legends Awards which benefits spinal cord research. A winner of more than 3,000 races, his career as a jockey was cut short in 1978 when he was paralyzed from the waist down in
a racing accident at Belmont Park.
The now 65-year-old Turcotte was the first jockey in 70 years to win back-to-back Kentucky Derbys with
Riva Ridge and Secretariat in 1972-73.
After his career ending accident, Ron returned to his native New
Brunswick where he continues to live with his wife Gaetane after raising their four daughters.

Fair Grounds will move ahead with plans to build a slot machine facility adjacent to the racetrack. Construction, which was initially supposed to begin
in 2005, was delayed when Hurricane Katrina caused significant damage to the racetrack facility. The 30,000 sq.ft. building will house 700 slot machines and parent company Churchill Downs Inc. is currently obtaining permission to renovate the main floor simulcast area to temporarily house 225 slot machines until the permanent facility is built.
