Get Ready for LongRun’s Second Annual Gala
Mark your calendars....It’s LongRun’s second annual gala on September 29, 2006 to be held under Woodbine’s Corporate Tent with this year’s theme being “A Golden Tribute” helping Woodbine Racetrack celebrate it 50th anniversary.
The nostalgic theme will honour all those horses that raced for our pleasure during Woodbine’s first half-century.
Already booked as the evening’s entertainment are Frank Sinatra and Marilyn Monroe tribute artists, provided by Hollywood Heaven Look Alikes and Entertainment, specializing in Canada’s top celebrity look and sound alike performers.
Plan to arrive early as “Frank” and “Marilyn”
will be available for photo opportunities during cocktail hour.
Chiefswood Stable’s Niigon is sponsoring the “Turf and Surf” plated dinner, the open bar will be courtesy of Adena Spring’s Awesome Again, while Windfields Farm and David and Susan Willmot’s Whiskey Wisdom will be hosting an after dinner scotch bar (how appropriate!).
Silent and live auctions will be a part of what should be an exciting evening, graciously hosted once again by Jeff Bratt and Jason Portuondo. Auction items include a trip to Barbados, a hockey weekend in Montreal and a three day getaway at
Pine Grove Resort.
Sponsorships are still available and auction
items are greatly appreciated.
Last year’s LongRun Black and White Gala was
a sell-out so be sure to buy your tickets or table early. Tickets are $250 a person or $2,000 for a table of eight.

Peacekeepers Day at
Fort Erie
Sunday, August 13 is Peacekeepers Day at the Fort Erie Race Track. The Canadian Association of Veterans in United Nations Peacekeeping (CAVUNP) and the Fort Erie Race Track Management have mutually agreed to honour our Peacekeepers on this compromise date as Fort Erie is “dark” on Wednesday, 9 August, which is the actual proclaimed date.
CAVUNP is sponsoring seven of the eight races on the day’s card of racing with the seventh race appropriately named The Peace Bridge Cup.
Each winning Owner will receive a Memorial trophy engraved with the name of one of the nine crewmembers of an unarmed CC-115 Buffalo transport, painted in UN white with blue UN markings, that was shot down over Syria on August 9, 1974 by three Syrian ground- to-air missiles while on a regularly scheduled re-supply flight. That unprovoked action represents the single, largest loss of life in Canadian UN Peacekeeping history.
Each winning trainer and jockey will also receive a commemorative plaque.
