Canadian Connections Out of Town
Penn National:
Owner Bruno Schickedanz has horses all over the U.S. it seems.
Trainer Nick Gonzalez had a couple of winners for owner Stronach Stables with Bear Back for $8100 on February 28 and Benz Boy for $8800 on March 2.
Trainer Ida Paquette is having a good meet at Tampa as she recorded another 2 wins this month worth a total of $21,000 in purses.
Trainer Roger Attfield showed up at Tampa on March 7 and took home a purse of $8100 with Sosella which he owns in partnership with William Werner.
Jockey Regina Sealock had a winner for $9800 on March 9 and Trainer Deborah Simpson had a winner with Away Ahead for $8300 on March 17 for owner Carlo D’ Amato.
Turf Paradise
Jockey Vince Guerra recorded 3 more wins this month totalling $39,800 in purse money while Jockey Tony Matteucci had a $5,000 win on March 18.
Turfway Park
Last but certainly not least - Trainer Mark Casse had an impressive win with Woodbine Stakes winner, Top Notch Lady, who won the Gr. 3 $150,000 Bourbonette Breeders’ Cup Stakes for 3-yr-old fillies for owner Robert Wilson on March 25.

Aqueduct:
Trainer Justin Nixon had three winners for owner Stronach Stables for purses totalling $79,000.
Trainer Nancy Triola had a win on March 12 with Whoa for $16,000 for owner Paul O’Neil.
Charles Town:
Trainer Don MacRae had a win for owner Daryl Jackson with Mr. Niner for $31,000 on March 4.
Evangeline Downs:
Jockey Jeff Burningham has surfaced in Louisiana with two winners this month for total purse earnings of $58,394.
Golden Gate Fields:
Owner Peter Redekop B.C. Ltd. recorded another big stakes win with the now Kentucky Derby hopeful Cause to Believe who won the $100,000 California Derby on March 11 for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer. The owner- trainer pair also had a win with Aim for Victory on March 3 for $9075.
Trainer Edward Freeman had a win with Celtic Way on March 18 for $39,670 for owner Kevin Matties with Jockey Jake Barton in the irons. Jake had a total of 6 wins this month worth $112,971 in purse earnings. Jake is now back at Hastings for the 2006 season.
Jockey Gerry Olguin had a couple of winners this month during his annual winter keep fit campaign on the West coast for purses totalling $17,888. Gerry has now returned home to Woodbine.
Hawthorne Race Course
Trainer Ralph Quaranta had a win with Portofino Creek “a.k.a Buster” for his wife Debbie on March 5 for $11,000.
Gulfstream Park:
Jockey Chantal Sutherland, who had been contemplating a return to Woodbine in 2006 but decided to stay in the U.S., had three winners this month totalling $74,000 in purse earnings.
Owner Harvey Tenenbaum had a couple of wins with trainer Julian Canet: Miss Valid Joann for $13,000 on February 24 and Judith’s Symphony for $10,00 on March 2.
Trainer Barbara Baird had another winner with Rate of Return for $13,000 on February 26 with hubby jockey Jerry Baird in the irons. Jerry has since returned to Woodbine while Barbara stays warm for a couple more weeks.
Trainer Brian Lynch had another winner for the Stronach Stables with Wedded Woman for $33,000 on Mar 6.
Los Alamitos
Jockey Tony Matteucci gets around - he recorded a win on Demin Red on March 25 for $5370
Mountaineer Race Track
Trainer Don MacRae and owner Bruno Schickedanz were hot at Mountaineer this month - but not together.
Don MacRae had 5 winners for various owners including himself with total purse earnings of $56,200. Jockey Martin Ramirez must have stopped by Mountaineer on his way back from Tampa because he was aboard for the win on Unbridled Cat for Don MacRae and owner Ellah Bloodstock on March 20.
Bruno Schickedanz and trainer Jeffrey Radosevich teamed up for four wins for total purse earnings of $61,700.
Ocala Training Center:
Although trainer Bruce Alexander is no longer training in Canada, Emerald Earrings was an impressive past winner at Woodbine and deserves a mention. She was the winner of the Florida Breeders’ Distaff Stakes worth $40,000 for owner Daniel Herrmann on March 20.
He teamed up with three different trainers at Penn National for 6 wins. Trainer Timothy Kreiser had two wins for $16,320 total purses; Trainer Todd Beattie had two wins for $20,918 in total purses and Trainer Samuel Keyrouze also had two winners (on the same day) for $14,758 total purses.
Sam Houston Race Park:
Trainer Romeo Omana had a win on March 9 with Kanata Ridge for $13,500 for owner Bayshore Racing Stable.
Santa Anita Park:
Trainer Patrick Gallagher posted a win for owner Harlequin Ranches with Proxenia (GB) on March 8 for $49,600.
Trainer Bob Baffert was the conditioner of the Charles Fipke winner Diamond Fury on March 24 for $56,790.
Trainer Edward Freeman had a nice win for $59,500 with Silver Highlight for owner Caslon & Miller on March 25.
Tampa Bay Downs
Owner Michael Barkowski had a win with trainer Jane Cibelli with Switched for $8300 on February 24.
