That the three year deal to host and televise the Sunshine Millions has expired however due to the success of the annual series of state-bred races,
officials at Magna Entertainment Group have begun securing the participation
of the Florida and California horsemen’s groups as well as NBC Sports
to continue with the event in the future.
Sunshine Millions was first introduced in 2003 by MEC Chairman Frank Stronach who owns MEC and both Gulfstream Park in Florida and Santa Anita Park in California
where the series of races are held.
The fourth edition of the series, held Jan 28, 2006,
offered purses totaling $3.6 million and brought in a combined handle of more than $31 million.
