THE JOCKS ROOM - CONTINUED FROM PREVIOUS PAGE "It's very satisfying to find or develop
new products that the riders are happy with," she said. "It's such a unique business to be in and the equipment really has to be tailor-made for it."
At last year's annual charity jockey's barbecue put on by members of the Woodbine riding colony, a bench donated by The Jocks Room for the live auction proved to be a popular item, fetching $400.
For Olguin, it was yet another indication her and her partners were on the right track.
And while the lion's share of business will undoubtedly come from local horsemen, Olguin is also looking at The
Jocks Room in more far-reaching terms, namely, attracting U.S. and European individuals that will descend upon Woodbine throughout the racing season.
With races like the $2-million Pattison Canadian International (October 23) and the $1-million Atto Mile (September 18) on the schedule, riders, trainers and owners from south of the border and across the Atlantic will comprise an important market down the road for The Jocks Room.
"Racing is a very small world," she noted. "In one week, I sold saddles in Toronto, California, and Guyana, all by word of mouth. I'm really looking forward to the upcoming racing season."
Robin certainly has plenty of reasons to.
Gulfstream Park, Florida 2006
The ‘fair like’ atmosphere of the 2005 Gulfstream meet is quite acceptable considering what is in store for January 2006. The above rendering shows the ‘new’ Gulfstream Park which is planned to be a massive racing and entertainment complex which will include condos, shops, restaurants, a sports theatre and blues hall. The Frank Stronach owned Magna Entertainment Group appear to be doing it right and the end result looks like it will be unlike any other racetrack in the world. Something which is certainly worth the tents this season.
Upcoming key races at Gulfstream Park include: Fountain of Youth Stakes & Gulfstream Park Handicap, March 5; Breeders’ Cup Sprint, March 12; and the Florida Derby, April 2.
The 2005 season ends April 24.

Did You Know.....
That the California Horse Racing board voted unanimously to raise the minimum weights that horses carry in California from 112 pounds to 116 pounds. A minimum body-fat content for jockeys was also established.
The rule changes are still months away and stiff opposition from racing secretaries at the racetracks have called for more study. The changes were voted upon to address the long-standing health concerns among jockeys who ride at far below their natural weights.
Male riders would have to maintain a 5 percent body-fat content, and female riders a 10 percent body-fat content. Those jockeys who are 1 percentage point below minimum would be warned and would be suspended if not back above minimum in three days.
