is distributed on the basis of points earned by the progeny of the stallion during the 2007 calendar year; and Year End Top Stallions Awards, where- in $150,000 is distributed to stallions whose progeny achieved the highest in North American earnings last year.
The 2007 Top Ontario Sires Award recipients are:
1st - Bold Executive; 2nd - Bold n’ Flashy; 3rd - Tethra.
The Top First Crop Sire by North American Earnings of Eligible Progeny: Ciano Cat.
Topping the list is Canada’s leading sire, Bold Executive, who earned $106,857 in Stallion Awards
representing top sire and year end
earning over $4.3 million. Among his leading runners for 2007 were stakes winners Legal Move, Main Executive, and Krz Exec. Bold Executive stands at Gardiner Farms Ltd. in Caledon East, Ontario.
Bold n’ Flashy was awarded $57,343 in Stallion Awards, having sired 56 winners from 97 starters in 2007, with progeny earnings of over $2.2 million. Among his leading runners were stakes winners Flashy Pink, Red Raf es, and Marco Be Good. Bold n’ Flashy stands at Park Stud in Orangeville, Ontario.
Multiple stakes winner Tethra received $33,020 in Stallion Awards. In 2007, he produced 45 winners from 83 starters with progeny earnings of more than $1.7 million from leading runners such as Don’s Folly, Orna, and Brockport. Tethra stands at Colebrook Farms in Uxbridge, Ontario.
Ciano Cat was awarded $53,906
in Stallion Awards as Top First Crop
Sire. Last year, the son of Storm Cat
produced 14 winners from 38 starters
with two-year-old progeny earnings
of $361,993. His leading 2007 runners
include Five and Off, Ciano Nights,
announced the special requirements for establishing a Thoroughbred broodmare as a 2008 Ontario Resident Mare, for the purposes of participation in the Horse Improvement Program (Program).
Broodmare owners are reminded that these special conditions apply to the 2008 foaling season only. To qualify
as a 2009 resident mare, the entry date requirement will be October 1, 2008, or 150 consecutive days surrounding foaling out, or breeding back to a 2009 Ontario Sires Stakes Stallion, with the other criteria to remain the same.

To be recognized by the Program as a 2008 Ontario Thoroughbred Resident Mare, a broodmare must foal out in Ontario during 2008 and must comply with one of the following criteria:
The recommendations for restruc- turing of the Thoroughbred Horse Improvement Program, which in- cluded the establishment of an Ontario Bred Purse Bonus, were approved
1. Resident in the Province of Ontario by February 15, 2008; OR
2. Resident in the Province of On- tario for 75 consecutive days surround- ing date of foaling out in Ontario; OR
by the Board of the ORC at its meet- ing of January 22, 2008. The original recommendations had provided special considerations for the  rst year, requiring mares to be in the Province by December 15, 2007. It has been determined that the deadlines should be revised due to timelines of the  nal approval of the Program changes.
3. Bred back to an Ontario Sire registered with the Ontario Sires Stakes Program in the 2008; OR
4. Purchased (or an RNA – Reserve Not Attained) at a recognized sale or auction that operated in accordance with SITA (Society of International Thoroughbred Auctioneers) OR purchased privately in a bona  de arms length transaction, AND in either case, arrives within the boundaries of Ontario no later than 30 days after the date of purchase.
Additional Program details will be communicated in the next few weeks. Broodmare owners are encouraged
to maintain all shipping, boarding
and treatment records to assist in demonstrating the mare’s residency, if required.
