Two clinics with JW Equine’s Judy Wardrope in the Toronto area
Thoroughbreds - Friday, August 31, 2007, 6:p.m. to 9:p.m. at WaterStone Estate & Farms and Practical Applications on Saturday, September 1, 2007, 1:p.m. at Woodbine
Fee for pre-registered attendees: $65 per clinic. General admission at the door: $75 per clinic. Pre-registration before August 15 is strongly suggested.
"How much sweat and strife could have been avoided had I been able to listen to Judy a decade earlier," said Violet Forbes of Lexington, Kentucky. "There is not a person in the equine industry today who could not benefit from her lecture. If they did listen and learn, we would not be producing horses that are ill equipped to perform the duties we are breeding them for. I now can approach my own horse buying and breeding activities with a new and valuable understanding of what I require in a horse, and what conformational attributes will help me achieve
success."
People attending the clinic can expect to leave with a new
understanding of how equine conformation relates to success in specific disciplines. Wardrope‚s clinics have been the most popular sessions at several Equine Affaires in the USA, are a proposed requirement for Sport Pony inspectors, have been the focal seminar for breed associations and contribute to Equine Canada‚s coaches updating hours.
Wardrope’s presentation is unique. She uses conformation photographs of some of the world’s top horses to illustrate the principles of functional conformation such as why some horses are world class jumpers and others succeed at the racetrack or in other disciplines.
Her informative and entertaining clinic will help you to see and evaluate horses and their performance potential in a whole, new way!Deborah Weiss 905-898-1530 or contact@waterstonefarms.com

Recent seizures of medications at Ontario tracks indicate some licensees are unaware of medication control rules and their responsibilities under the Rules of Racing. While investigations are underway as to the source, identity and purpose of the medications in these instances, all licensees need to be aware of the implications of carrying or storing medications.
Licensees – especially those directly responsible for the care of the horse – should only acquire, be in a possession of, and use medications or products that are clearly labeled, have been prescribed by a licensed veterinarian or obtained from a distributor or supplier licensed or authorized to sell these products.
Also, if you are storing or carrying medication of any kind, know what it is and have the appropriate documentation. If the medication is for your personal use and requires a prescription, be sure to carry that information with you.
The industry-funded ORC Equine Medication Control and Drug Task Force is stepping up its efforts to break the unintentional or deliberate use of illegal medications – known as
the Substance Abuse Cycle.
Working with track security, the Task Force has uncovered a
number of unknown or questionable medications during vehicle searches.
All those licensed to work in the industry are required to act in the best interests of the horses in their care, as well as to act in accordance with law, integrity and the public interest. Under the Rules of Racing, trainers have a clear and direct responsibility not to administer any medications or products that may harm the horse or take any action that may harm the horse.
ORC Judges and Stewards have the responsibility, digression and authority to take actions to protect the health of the horse and the best interests of racing.
Horse people, owners, trainers, bettors, and the general public want an industry that is fair, competitive and played by the rules. These rules include licensees having full knowledge of what is being carried or stored in trucks, trailers and other vehicles.
