Did You Know....
That two more U.S. racetracks were added to Woodbine’s list of Commingled Pools in October. Keeneland Racetrack in Kentucky and Belmont in New York are the latest U.S. tracks to be offered as commingled pools for Canadian horseplayers.
The first Thoroughbred racetrack in the United States to
offer commingled
pools with Canada
was Washington State’s Emerald Downs, which is simulcast at Hastings Racecourse in BC.
In August Woodbine customers could bet directly into Arlington pools which has continued with the Hawthorne meet in Chicago.
Canadian horse- players were able to participate in the worldwide pool for the Breeders’ Cup on October 29.
According to the Daily Racing Form, commingled wagering became possible when the United States eliminated its 30 percent withholding tax on bets from outside the country last year.
As most horseplayers are aware, some Canadian racetracks are now offering commingled pools with selected U.S. racetracks. Some people are wondering just what commingled pools are and what benefits there are for both the horseplayers and racetracks in Canada.
Common pool wagering allows money wagered in Canada on a U.S. track to commingle or merge with money wagered throughout the U.S. and as a result the pools are larger and there- fore the payoffs could be potentially higher as well.
Common pool wagering is only available on those racetracks that meet the requirements of the Canadian Pari-Mutuel Agency. For a complete guide to U.S. Common Pool Wagering you can drop by the HPI booth at Woodbine or pick up an easy to read guide which is available throughout the building or you can visit www.woodbineentertainment.com and click on the U.S. Common Pool Wagering for a copy of the guide as well as the U.S. Common Pool Rules and Regulations for each U.S. Track.
