Popular among the jockeys at Hastings, who banded together for this closing day photo, Dr. Don Olson longtime racing veterinarian and official vet at Hastings Racecourse retired this year due to poor health. He will be greatly missed by horsemen and colleagues.
Ladies Night at the TTRC
This pair of curious weanling fillies are from the first crop for stallion, The Lady’s Groom, who is standing at Winsome Ranch in Keremeos, BC. The fillies are out of the mares, Grey Sky and Chicka Hermosa and are owned by Scott and Treena Ksionzyk in Forest Grove, BC.

Louis Romanet, who will retire as director general of France Galop on December 31, 2007, continues to serve as chairman of the IFHA until October 2009.
The Toronto Thoroughbred Racing Club (TTRC) is an ever expanding group of racing fans who have been meeting at Woodbine for more than 40 years.
Louis Romanet will receive the award on
Friday, December 14, 2007 at the 33rd Sovereign Award ceremonies to be held in the Frontenac Ballroom at the Westin Harbour Castle in Toronto, Ontario.
News in Review Jockey Corey Fraser unfortunately had an early end to his season after fracturing his left ankle in a training accident in late November. Corey had a pin and screws inserted to stabilize the fracture which is expected to take two months to heal. Corey  nished the Woodbine meet with 41 wins, 50 seconds, 43 thirds and earnings of more than $2.3 million in 382 starts.
Applications are invited from quali ed individuals to serve on the Ontario Racing Industry Board of Appeal. Members of the Board of Appeal play an integral role
in the system of fairness and due process available to
all licensees under the Rules of Racing and the Racing Commission Act, 2000. Quali cations required include knowledge of horse racing, familiarity with the Rules of Racing, as well as sound judgment and decision-making skills.

Louis Romanet to receive a Special Sovereign Award
The Jockey Club of Canada announced today they would be presenting a Special Sovereign Award to Louis Romanet, director general of France Galop and chairman of the International Federation of Horse Racing Authorities (IFHA) in recognition of his many years of service to the International racing and breeding industry.
The Romanet family has been associated with French racing since 1907 and in 1978 Jean Romanet, Louis Romanet’s father was the recipient of a Special Sovereign Award.

At the meetings members enjoy a panel of special guests which include racing personalities, trainers and jockeys. The TTRC also hosts annual farm visits and backstretch tours of Woodbine. The TTRC are true fans of horse racing!

Who is that guy?
Security Guard, Ian Smith, pictured here as we all know him, was dressed to the nines to receive his award for 25 years of service at Woodbine. Ian started out in security at Greenwood Race- track and moved to Woodbine after the closure of the downtown racetrack.
Trainer Reade Baker and his now retired pony, Ren, look as though they are taking a quick nap on the training track at Woodbine. Ren had a unique habit of crossing his front legs when standing idle on the track.
