The Game in England
On a recent vacation to England, we had the pleasure of visiting Hereford Racecourse for a day out at the races.
Situated on the edge of the Cathedral City of Hereford, the racecourse was hosting its annual Ladies Day at the Races on June 4, one of eighteen race meetings that they host each year.
The track, which consists of nine “stiffish” fences, is a right-handed, almost square shaped 1-1/2 mile track.
There were seven races carded that day, each with large fields of 14 to 15 horses which provided plenty of action including the occasional loose horse and some close finishes.
We also enjoyed the two Pony Races which were part of the 2006 Charles Owen Pony Racing Series and featured eleven to fifteen year-olds flat racing at 6 to 8 furlongs.
Hereford Racecourse is part of the Northern Racing Group which owns and operates nine racecourses in the U.K. For more information visit northernracing.co.uk
Benefit Fund (IRE), owned and trained by
D.J. Wintle of Cheltenham, with jockey Ryan Cummings aboard in the paddock before the second race.
Tom Bell (IRE) is going all out over the final fence with jockey Steven Crawford in the fourth race.
An ominous looking sky provided a stunning backdrop to an equally ominous looking fence with a glimpse of the horses nearing the first fence in Novice Hurdle Race for £6500.

The grandstand and paddock areas were packed with fans on Ladies Day at the Races at Hereford Racecourse on June 4
The final race of the meeting was a 2 mile and 1 furlong flat race for a total purse of £2500.
