IV. 8 NW Nursing Unit Mary Hicks, RN provided report on 8 NW Cardiovascular Medical / Surgical Unit. Informational
– Copy of presentation • 8NW reopened after a complete renovation, 16 patients were transferred from
attached to official 6NW to 8NW on November 17, 2018.
minutes • New processes and technology include:
o Unit clerk located near entrance to greet patients and families when
entering the unit.
o Room readiness process created to ensure that room is clean, safety
check is performed, and all equipment and supplies are available prior to
patient’s arrival.
o Medication administration workflow optimized with new Omnicell
technology, an automated medication dispensing machine filled for
cardiac population that provides 95% of patient medications.
o Masimo vital sign monitoring system located at each bedside.
o MyChart Bedside utilizes a tablet to enhance communication opportunities
between patient and care team.
o Epic Room Display tablets outside room with current patient safety and
care information.
o Computers, scanners and printers located at each bedside which allows
for one-step positive patient identification.
• Reviewed quality metrics dishoard.
• Quality project implemented to reduce noise on unit.
