DACTYLOGRAPHY – the scientific study of
fingerprints
DACTYLOGRAPHY – the study and comparison of
fingerprints as a means of criminal identification;
first used systematically for that purpose in
England in 1900, but a means of identification since
the first century.
DACTYLOSCOPY – identification of persons through
examination and comparison of fingerprint. The
term is derived from the Greek words dactylos – a
finger and skopien – to examine
DACTYLOSCOPY – the study of fingerprints as
means of personal identification.
DAMPER – a normally open device installed inside an
air duct system which automatically closes to
restrict the passage of smoke or fire.
DAUBERT STANDARD – a test in scientific
acceptability applicable to gathering of evidence in
criminal cases.
DAVID EMILE DURKHEIM – a French sociologist,
famous for his work on the “Anomie Theory”
which focused on the sociological point of the
positivist school which explains that the absence
of norms in a society provides a setting
conductive to crimes and other anti-social acts.
