PILE HITCH
The Pile Hitch is very quick and easy to tie, as long as you’re working at
the end of a stick or pole.
STEP 1 Pass a bight of rope around a post near the edge.
STEP 2 Open up the bight to pass it over the two standing parts and
through the top of the post.
It helps to learn tying the Pile Hitch before going on to the Icicle Hitch
(see Chapter 8), which is an extension of the Pile Hitch.
SLIPPED OVERHAND KNOT
You start the Slipped Overhand Knot the same way you begin tying the
Overhand Knot, with one variation—the last tuck is made with a bight of
the running end, so that the very end is not pulled through the crossing
turn. This is what you do when you tie the bows in your shoelaces.
