                         A MESSAGE FROM OUR SPONSOR

                         KING’S COLLEGE LONDON

t’s inspiring to see so many young men and women who are not only achieving top
grades at some of the best universities in the UK, but who are also finding the time
I to give back. The Future Leaders in this magazine are clearly not only hard working
and ambitious, but they’re also passionate about making a difference, whether that be
through mentoring secondary school students, getting involved in activism, starting
their own charity or business or volunteering overseas.

King’s College London is one of the top
25 universities globally, and has a vision to
make the world a better place. King’s students
and staff make a tangible contribution to
the communities with which we engage, for
instance through the King’s Smile Society,
working with the local community to improve
dental health, or by providing pro bono advice
through The Dickson Poon School of Law. So
we are not only interested in students who can
achieve top grades, but also those who are passionate about contributing to their community, and society at
large. On pages 54-55, you can see two of our inspirational students, Sharon and James who demonstrate this
commitment. You can also read about some more of our outstanding students: Kanchelli Iddrisu; Harriet
Ohemeng, Lian David; Spencer Duvwaima; Nicole Gentles; Antoinette Lasana; Naomi Mwakamowo; Esther
Tolani; and Ayo Olukoya in the profiles section.
One of the ways King’s College London is trying to make the world a better place is through the work of
the Widening Participation Department, which is working to ensure that the best students can come here,
regardless of their background. Black and Caribbean students, especially men, are still underrepresented at
top universities in the UK, a fact that our African Caribbean Society drew attention to earlier this year in
their #BlackMenAtKingsCollegeLondon Twitter campaign (see above pic). We believe that our diversity is
our strength. Students at King’s come from a different backgrounds, nationalities and hold a broad range of
different viewpoints. Through this King’s represents a diversity of thought and expression which best places
                         us to impact society.
That’s why we are aiming to be the most accessible university in the Russell Group.
So we’re calling all leaders and change makers: Are you interested in attending one of the world’s greatest
universities, in the heart of London, and do you share our vision to make the world a
better place? If so, I’d encourage you to consider King’s College London, and look at
                         our outreach activities at www.kcl.ac.uk/wp.
I’d like to congratulate all of this year’s 100 Future Leaders, and wish them all
the best for the future. I am sure they will continue to lead positive change in their
                         communities and wider society.
