A MESSAGE FROM OUR LEAD SPONSOR
Diversity and inclusion is part of who we are at HSBC and we are delighted to be the lead
sponsor of the Future Leaders publication for the next three years.
2018 marks a major milestone for us, with the creation of our ring-fenced bank (14.5 million
customers served by 32,000 colleagues) and our head office move to Birmingham (the UK’s
second largest metropolitan city). This exciting year gives us the opportunity to get closer to
our customers, colleagues and the diverse communities we serve across the UK.
Our goal is to be an inclusive employer of choice. We are doing this by building an organ-
isation that reflects our customer base and fosters a culture within which all individuals are
valued, respected and supported to fulfil their potential.
We believe diversity brings benefits for our customers, our business and our people. We want
a connected workforce that reflects and resonates with the communities in which we oper-
ate and that brings different ideas and perspectives that help us innovate, manage risk and
develop our business for the benefit of all.
We have made great progress on BAME inclusion, helping the organisation to get more com-
fortable when speaking about race and understanding the lived experiences of our BAME em-
ployees. We have been proud to receive some external recognition when we were named a
Best Company for Race in 2017 and four of our colleagues were featured in the 2018 Financial
Times list of ethnic minority role models, but this is just the beginning and we acknowledge
there is a lot more to do.
Continuing to cultivate a diverse and inclusive culture is vital for our future success. To do this,
we need future leaders just like the ones featured in this year’s publication, who are ambi-
tious, forward-thinking and can understand the future needs of our customers.
Whether you join us through work experience, traineeships, apprenticeships or our graduate
programmes, we look forward to working with talented individuals who will thrive at HSBC
UK, fulfil their potential and become our next generation of leaders.
