Why do you think Gregory uses simple vocabulary to narrate this particular experience?
The embarrassment that Gregory felt was very great because he had never learned anything about shame at home.
6. How does society still continue to use negativity to keep people down? Why do people feel the need to
point out those who have less or who are different?
In our society there are still people who believe that because they have more than others they are better.
7. Describe a time when you have been made to feel insignificant? How does that experience help you to feel
empathy toward Gregory?
When I first entered the University here in Ambato, my classmates made me feel very bad because there were things I
did not understand because they did not teach me in school, many of them made fun of my knowledge that they were
different from those of them. My experience taught me to improve my knowledge day by day and help others as they
did with Gregory.
8. In what ways could Dick Gregory be considered an outlier?
He could be considered as an extraordinary person because of his high self-esteem.
