1983 REFORM – A NEW RECIPE SAVES SOCIAL SECURITY FOR THE NEXT 75 YEARS

           PRESIDENT RONALD REAGAN:

Today all of us can all look each other in the eye and say we kept our promises. We promised we would protect the
financial integrity of Social Security – WE HAVE. We promised we would protect beneficiaries against any loss in current
benefits – WE HAVE. We promised to attend to the needs of those still working; not only those Americans nearing
retirement, but those young people just entering the labor force – WE’VE DONE THAT TOO

             SPEAKER OF HOUSE TIP O’NEILL:
This great country of our has always operated on the theory that each generation pays for the generation before it. The
golden agers of today are the ones who made America great All worked together from both sides of the isle. All have
worked together from both sides of the isle. It shows the system does work. This is a happy day for America

           SENATE MAJORITY LEADER HOWARD BAKER:
On occasion we rise above politics, and address on a bi-partisan basis the challenges, and issues that confront the

republic. The preservation of the Social Security system is one of those issues. In a uniquely American way those of us
who participate in Government, Republicans, and Democrats gather together, and subordinate our own views to those
of the majority. This reform legislation concludes another great chapter in the American political system. That is the
subordination of our own particular political ambitions in favor of the greater good.

WHAT WILL THIS NEW RECIPE TASTE LIKE?
