The way you talk to yourself is really important. It affects how you treat yourself and how you treat others.
Are you encouraging? Are you mean? Would
you speak that way to someone else? You want to speak
to yourself in a kind, helpful manner.
It can be discouraging when things are challenging or don’t go as planned. If you notice Screech Speech, try to say something more encouraging or something you would
say to a friend. Give yourself permission to ask for help when you are feeling stuck. Try and focus more on your effort, not on the way something may have turned out.
Changing your Screech Speech isn’t just about saying something positive; most of the time it’s about saying
something helpful or saying something in a kinder way. Keep practicing until you can start talking in a more
helpful way to yourself. This can be difficult to do on your own, if you need help ask an adult you trust to help you.
Adults have to work on this too and I’m sure they would be happy to talk to you about their own Screech Speech!
