From the President…
Members and Colleagues!
Is the year really half gone already? I can’t believe we’re already talking about the NCISS Mid-
Term board meeting. This year our Mid-Term NCISS board meeting will be held in conjunction
with the Michigan Council of Professional Investigators (MCPI) conference. Our board meeting
will be held Monday September 30, 2019 and all NCISS members are welcome to attend.
The MCPI conference starts with a welcome reception on Sunday, September 29th and their
regular conference day is October 1st. All of this will take place at the beautiful The Inn at St.
Johns in Plymouth, MI. These events are separate registrations. Details and registrations at www.NCISS.org and
www.MCPIhome.com (MCPI is extending the discounted registration to NCISS members).

Wes Bearden, 1 Vice President and Legislative Chair-Investigations, started the call by letting everyone know what
NCISS does and had Keith Nelson, our representative on The Hill with Lobbyit, talk about issues we've watched this year
and why. We spoke about legislative issues starting on the state level oftentimes and why legislative watch and
representation is important for each association on a state level as well as the Federal level. The call lasted about an
hour with several talking about issues they dealt with in their state throughout the year, and wrapped up on a very high
note. I received several emails and calls after to let me know how informative this was, and received great feedback on
the value of the legislative round table. Thanks to all who were able to represent their state associations and attend this
call.
Our goal this year is to bring more value to members through their state associations. With this in mind we held our very
first Legislative Round Table conference call with association heads from around the country. 33 association leaders
were on the call and many states were represented. Although our main focus within NCISS is federal legislation, we all
know that some of the issues and beginnings of laws that affect our profession start on the state level. We’d like to get a
better idea of what challenges associations face legislatively around the country. We realized in speaking with some of
you in recent months that many don’t know what we can do to assist when you have those legislative challenges, and
oftentimes don’t reach out to get us involved. We hope this is just the beginning the strengthen those relationships and
become one voice for our profession.
Respectfully,
Andrea Orozco
