Memories from Genine Phillips Notes:

Genine had many roles at LLR: housekeeper, bookkeeper, nanny and horse show person. She remembers
some general dates: _________________

1977—LLR purchased, horses and barn installed
1978—Genine travelled to Mallorca as Igor’s nanny. Igor was born in 1976 _________________
1978-1980—import of horses _________________
1979-1986—Genine, Pedro and Zourab periodically visiting LLR, roughly six times a year for 2-6 _________________
weeks each _________________
1986—Tax reform: horse breeding was no longer a tax shelter _________________
1986—most horses were sold (75 mares, 10 stallions) _________________
Marieta: loved trying new things; she embodied elegance and had class and yet was down to earth, _________________
connected to the land. Marieta was known to be charitable and generous, concerned that not everyone
had all they needed. Marieta always portrayed class, no matter if she wore Valentino (according to Zourab _________________
Marieta and Valentino were great personal friends and she would spend time on his yacht every summer) _________________
or work clothes. Her manners were impeccable, and she commanded attention. She was beautiful and _________________
petite with big eyes and eye lashes; Marieta was “totally in love” with Zourab, who was “truly her Prince”
and their love story a fairytale. _________________

Pedro: adventurous and worldly, loved being there; he really lived it and got the most out of his time at
the ranch made thigs fun; he was “Our Hemingway”. Also started the largest Brangus herd in California ________________
Zourab: he loved it! He was always thinking about water for the ranch and was the force behind creating Figure 86: Valentino
the lake—for which he wishes to be remembered. In his own words, he very much liked horses, their Garavani
smell and listening to them munching on their grain in their stalls in the evening. He was not so keen on
going to horse shows and standing around, talking about horses.
Huguette: Pedro’s Tahitian wife, she was probably 20 years Pedro’s junior. She only spoke French. She was
taken care of —her only job was to be beautiful and exotic—and from time to time she performed sensual
Tahitian dances for their closest friends.
