FINAL REFLECTION
I know that English is a very important language nowadays; have the enough knowledge about the
history and language of English culture is essential in our career. That is why I would like to thank my
teacher for being a good instructor and guide during this period.
The history of the English language is a complex tapestry of gradual developments and short, sharp
shocks, of isolation and mutual influences, of borrowings and obsolescence. This module has been of great
importance because throughout the semester I have acquired many basic skills that will allow me to fulfill
the tasks set in a good way in later levels. The topics have been easy to understand and helpful in order to
learn to analyze different topics from the past until now. In this module, I learnt to express my ideas and to
participate in an active manner using English. In addition, it was very helpful to recognize cultural variety
and linguistic differences in the United States, examine the complex interaction between demographics
and language in American and Ecuadorian contexts, interpret the cultural and linguistic impact of the
Hispanic population on the United States and American English through analysis of literary works, and
explain the symbiotic relationship between American popular culture and American English slang.
However, the most relevant for me was the element 1 that was to create a chart from the video the
history of English. Therefore, I learned that it was the British who first spread English around the globe
through imperialism from the 1600s to the 1900s. As the British colonized other countries, English
became established as the language of education and government. In addition, the element 4 that was to
illustrate the influence of Hispanic culture and Spanish on American culture and English, through a role-
play, I learned that the Latino population has had an impact not only on the demography of the U.S.
population, but also on other aspects of U.S. society.
Finally, the history and language of English culture, is an ideal complement to subjects where an
understanding of how language works is important. In it subject you explore both the history and structure
of English language and its relationship with culture, society, and the mind.
