STATEMENT OF PERSONAL LEARNING GOALS
Language is an important part of our lives. It is a uniquely human gift, which lets us
communicate and differentiates us from primates. Nevertheless, language is much more than
just a means of communication. It is also an inseparable part of our culture. On the other
hand, understanding the linkages between past and present is basic for a good understanding
of the condition of being human. That, concisely, is why History matters. It is not just 'useful',
it is essential. History is an integral part of normal education. Therefore, the history and
language of English culture, is an ideal complement to subjects where an understanding of
how language works is important. In it subject you explore both the history and structure of
English language and its relationship with culture, society, and the mind.
I will start by explaining the reasons why which I want to take this module. We as
future English teacher is so important to learn what is the history of English, where this
magnificent language comes from and know deeply the English culture. Whatever your
thoughts on the matter, English, with all its vagaries and annoying inconsistencies, remains
the single most important and influential language in today’s world. Throughout history, it
has repeatedly found itself in the right place at the right time. For this reason, I think this
course will contribute a lot to my future career. However, I have to do several things in order
to complete this course successfully.
The expectations for taking this module is that I hope to acquire enough knowledge
and skills, which I will use in the professional field. Also, I would like to become a good
professional having a better understanding of how identify the impact of American culture
and the English language in a global setting, for the fact that now English is spoken all over
the world, it's an international language, and one that is constantly evolving. In order to
achieve these goals, I will do my best by being responsible and punctual, practicing all the
things learned in class, taking notes of something relevant, asking questions to the teacher if I
do not understand something.
To summarize, the importance of the history of English language resides on knowing
the knowledge and using it. It is an essential part since we will benefit greatly by improving
our analytical skills and it will contribute with our professional development.
