Informaion campaign
Fire fatalities are smoke fatalities. When a fire breaks out, the greatest danger for the people in the building is the fire smoke. Within just a few minutes, visibility may become so poor that people lose their bearings and can no longer get to safety. The economic effects are also devastat- ing: smoke gases cause more damage than the flames and the second- ary damage as a result of soot and corrosive gases accounts for over 50 % of the total costs in a major fire.
For these reasons it is necessary to rethink the evaluation of construc- tion materials. Not only high flame resistance, but also low smoke devel- opment and the exclusion of burning droplets determine the safety of technical insulation materials. In many European countries the require- ments regarding the smoke development of the building products used have already been tightened, other countries however are lagging behind.
Armaflex Ultima makes a difference
To point out the importance of low-smoke insulation materials for ensur- ing people’s safety in buildings and protecting material assets, Armacell has started an information campaign in many European countries. The insulation manufacturer uses instruments such as videos, infographics, brochures and an internet campaign to explain the fire behaviour of elastomeric technical insulation materials. The initiative is targeted at various groups, including specifiers, installers and also end customers.
Although it is never possible to completely rule out a fire occurring, the consequences of a blaze can be significantly reduced.

FIRE DEATHS ARE SMOKE DEATHS. IT'S NOT THE FIRE WHICH KILLS,
it's the smoke! Geringe Rauchdichte entscheidet im Brandfall über Leben und Tod
Europäische Brandklassifizierung
95% 5%
