MIKE GAJDORUS
ART DIRECTOR | ARCHITECTURAL DESIGNER
Mike Gajdorus is a Principal and Art Director for SONNY+ASH, a visual communications studio based in Chicago, and has spearheaded many of
the company’s innovation initiatives.
While pursuing his architecture degree, Mike discovered his passion for 3D Design and CG through the Pixar animated film, Ratatouille. This
inspired Mike to find new and creative ways to tell a design story.
Mike started with SONNY+ASH in 2012 as a 3D artist for hospitality projects. Working directly with architects and designers, he soon discovered
many limitations of the traditional rendering, most importantly the failure of that technology’s inability to capture the complete design vision.
Mike envisioned the 360 rendering as an innovative tool that not only realized the full design of a project for designers, but also provides an
interactive experience for their clients.
After the positive reception of 360 renderings from designers and clients alike, Mike continued his exploration and development into tools that
would further assist in design visualization. Through the use of virtual reality devices such as the Oculus, GearVR, and Google Cardboard, he was
able to generate a more immersive experience. Mike continues to explore the varying ways that design can be experienced. Through the use
of virtual reality, augmented reality, real-time rendering and gaming engines, he firmly believes that these technologies have an opportunity to
be utilized in every stage of the design process.
Mike holds a Bachelor of Architecture, with a specialization in Digital Design, from the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) in Chicago.
