Component video feed for digital/analog YCbCr/YPbPr connectors.
S-Video came about for connecting selected consumer video equipment. This method transmits video over two analog signals, the gray-scale (Y) and the R-Y/B-Y color data signal.
Digital color video is transmitted in two flavors, RGB and YCbCr (although YCbCr is a mathe- matical formulation of the RGB color matrix). The digital RGB is simply the converted analog RGB while the YCbCr (digital) and YPbPr (analog) are variations on the RGB standard (Figure 10.25). When connecting video equipment, a determination of the signal must be made before defining the connection method.
In higher resolution transmissions (above standard definition), the colors are separated into their components for separate transmission over different lines. Care must be taken to determine the compatibility of the video signal with the capture device.
Methods of connecting video capture devices to ultimate monitors vary in quality but are typi- cally ranked in descending order for connecting subsea/terrestrial cameras, DVD (digital video disk) players, digital cable/satellite/terrestrial set-top boxes, or other video feeding media.
