The color sampling formats between the various RGB components (or YCbCr) are expressed into their ratios (e.g., 4:4:4 for sampling of four parts Y by four parts Cb by four parts Cr, 4:2:2, 4:2:0, etc.). Mathematical conversion of the various bit levels, sampling rates, and color saturation are beyond the scope of this text.
Also, the digital interface standards have moved very rapidly since the advent of digital video, making any detailed mentioning of those standards (in all likelihood) obsolete by the time of publi- cation of this text; therefore, this section has concentrated on digital video basics, transmission, capture, and compression. However, a partial listing of the current video interface standards at the date of publication of this text (from various standards organizations with varying references to standard identification) is as follows:
• Serial Digital Interface (SDI)
• FireWire
• High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI)
• Digital Visual Interface (DVI)
• Unified Display Interface
• DisplayPort
• Universal Serial Bus (USB)
• Digital component video
• Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB)
• Asynchronous Serial Communication Interface (ASI)
10.4 Video capture
The end deliverable for a typical ROV assignment is the audio-annotated video along with a video log of the activities on the video (for easy referencing). The video may be captured in any of sev- eral formats based upon the client-desired storage medium.
