The combination of the arm’s dexterity and more sophisticated control types allows the operator to perform tasks such as following surfaces or inserting electrical or hydraulic connectors. With the incorporation of computer controls, additional capabilities can be added, such as stow, deploy, lock-in-position, or perform other preprogrammed routines. The manipulator’s control options are discussed in Section 19.5.
