  In general, follow these steps when the ROV system fails:
1. Obtain the service manual for the ROV system in question. 2. Observe the conditions in which the symptoms appear.
3. Make note of as many of the symptoms as possible.
4. Use senses to locate the source of the problem.
5. Retry.
6. Document the finding and test results.
7. Assume one problem (when multiple symptoms are present, troubleshoot the easiest one first). 8. Diagnose to a section (fault identification).
9. Consult the troubleshooting chart of the manufacturer’s maintenance manual.
10. Localize to a stage (fault localization). 11. Isolate to a failed part (fault isolation). 12. Repair.
13. Test and verify.
