After the tripod sonar has been lowered onto the bottom and has acquired the target, the sub- mersible is launched; then it follows the sonar line down to the bottom. Once on the bottom, the submersible determines the orientation of the sonar head and then flies in the direction of the target. The tripod sonar operator, after locating the submersible on the sonar, can guide the submersible operator to the target (Figure 22.14).
22.3.7.2 Sonar mounted aboard the ROV
The target can also be located via the onboard scanning sonar system (Figure 22.15). But be warned—the perspective of the target from the side scan sonar will be dramatically different from
