‘After Van Dyke’ demonstrates the technique of the Old Master, depicting ‘The Deposition’.
I painted this under the supervision of Mikhail Divertov, who restored Rembrandt’s ‘Danae’ in the Hermitage after it was almost irreparably damaged in 1985.
He was head of the Restoration Department at the Repin Academy and he taught me many of the secrets of painting. This painting uses a spiral composition which emanating from the hand of Christ in the ratio of the Golden Sector.
