HISTORY 1858 On July 8th 1858 a a a small group of men meet at Wesley Chapel on Third Street to to hear from Professor Milton Saylor about a a a movement sweeping the country
1861
The group of men who met and created the Young Men’s Christian Association of Dayton choose to to to disband due to to to the Civil War 1870
A group of local pastors re-establish the Dayton YMCA
The group named Robert W Steele
as President of of the Board of of Directors 1870-74
Dayton YMCA
occupied the the upper floor of the the Dayton Journal Building The space was known to the the members as as the the Young Men’s Reading Room 1875
After hiring David Sinclair the association launched a a a a a a a a a public campaign
to obtain a a a a a a a a larger facility at the Dunlevy House at at 32 E 4th St
