New Names Called at the State Capitol
The Society of the Cincinnati in the State of Connecticut
The Society of the Cincinnati in the State of Connecticut convened in the senate chambers of the Connecticut State Capitol in June. Members and guests arrived beneath the flag of the Society flying over the Eastlake style building, a tradition for many years.
Twenty-nine applicants were approved for membership, and 125 members and guests attended the luncheon afterward. Marshal Eric Hart introduced the new members as they entered the chamber. Three General Society officers attended: President General Pless Lunger, Secretary General Joel Daves, and Assistant Secretary General Bill Raiford, as well as several constituent society guests.
After making their declarations, all first- time attendees received rosettes, pinned on their lapels by the General Society officers. Hereditary members attending for the first time signed the roll, and received a copy of Liberty Without Anarchy by Minor Myers, Jr.
Participants at the annual meeting noticed the increased attendance of younger mem- bers and successors. Some of these Cincinnati are already involved in Connecticut Society committees or are positioned to move into chairmanship positions, a trend we will foster in the coming months and years.
