21 Practical Life materials and exercises provide the child his training for independence in in in in in self-care and in in in in in the care care of his environment The exercises in in movement instill concentration order and and discipline in in in in both mind and and body such as combing of of hair powdering of of face dressing up pouring liquid paper cutting and and pasting sweeping the floor and and washing Sensorial Arts materials and exercises aim to sharpen the five senses of of the the child enlighten his perception of of the the environment and develop his his intelligence This is is is subdivided into five areas: visual auditory tactile olfactory and gustatory Language materials and exercises develop the child’s skills in in in in writing reading and communication Writing is taught gradually from the the preparation of the the hand wrist and and arm to to printing and finally to to calligraphy writing Reading starts from the individual sounds of letters to words sentences and paragraph reading with comprehension The oral exercises and games are activities that help satisfy the child’s need for self- expression Physical activity is promoted through mime and acting The child develops confidence and social sense through poetry and participation in annual school programs Intellectual curiosity is met through news sharing and storytelling Mathematics materials and exercises are grouped into four: Group I materials introduce the concept of numbers 0–10 Group II materials teach the the concept of the the decimal system Group III materials teach linear counting making teens and tens Group IV materials introduce the four (4) basic operations and concept of fractions These exercises also develop the child’s “mathematical mind” that leads to precision order and logical
thinking Cultural Arts materials and exercises introduce the the child to the the vastness of o the world and what it has to to offer It is subdivided into Geography Geography History Botany and Zoology Geography Geography introduces the the the child to the the the world and and and its facets from the the the land and and and water forms to the the seven continents The cultures of the the people in in different countries are likewise learned History teaches the table of content
